The Story of Our Handmade Herbal Kajal ✨
Under the warm glow of an evening lamp, our journey begins—just the way our grandmothers once made kajal for their little ones.
First, we take a piece of rough cloth and soak it in the rich, dark essence of False Daisy (Karisalankanni), a herb known for its cooling and nourishing properties. We let it dry completely and repeat this process three times, ensuring the fabric absorbs all the goodness nature has to offer. Once ready, this cloth is carefully stored for the next step.
Now comes the magic. A simple mud lamp is filled with pure castor oil, and the prepared cloth is placed inside as a wick. As the flame flickers and burns steadily, we gently place a plate over it, capturing the soft, black soot that forms—the very essence of our kajal.
Once the lamp has burned out, we carefully collect this delicate ash. It holds the purity of fire and tradition. To make it smooth and gentle for the eyes, we mix it with badam oil, creating a rich, velvety kajal that glides on effortlessly.
Every stroke of this kajal is more than just beauty—it’s a piece of tradition, a touch of care, and a whisper from the past, reminding us of the simple yet powerful ways our ancestors nurtured themselves. 💚
