BARNYARD MILLET
A barnyard is a fenced-in area on a farm, usually next to a barn, which sometimes contains goats, chickens, or other farm animals. The Barnyard millet is a wild seed and not a grain, mainly grown in the hilly areas of Uttaranchal, India. It is the fourth most produced minor millet, providing food security to many poor people across the world.
Cultivated
It is cultivated on the Himalayan slopes between sea level and 2000 meters above sea level. Barnyard millet can grow well in warm, somewhat humid climates. Barnyard millet originated in India and nowadays, it is grown throughout India, particularly in Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

How to cook
Barnyard Millet Pulav
*Soak the Barnyard Millet for 30 minutes in a large bowl.
*In a pressure cooker, put a little oil and sauté all the spices along with ginger and the garlic paste.
*Now add chopped veggies and cook for 5 minutes.
*Add vegetable barnyard millet rice to the above vegetable mixture and stir for 3 minutes.
*Add 4 cups of water and cook for 5–6 whistles.
*Garnish with Coriander leaves and serve with raita.
